Stability Criteria of an “Elastic” Universal Fuzzy Position Controller for Motor Drives

A stability criterion for universal fuzzy position control drives is described. This method allows an immediate definition of the stability boundaries through the knowledge of common motor parameters. The method can be applied to almost every type of motors, from DC to Synchronous, regardless of most fuzzy controller characteristics. “Elastic” fuzzy controller "gain" limits can be established allowing thereto an effortless steady state error response and usually limited boundaries in the input reference elimination. Fewer energy losses are also achieved without loosing the stability of the control system. A numerical example is presented using a DC motor drive and an “elastic” universal fuzzy controller.
